AF JROTC Cadet Corps

General Information

The Cadet Corps is currently organized as a squadron. Positions are rotated in the Cadet Corps to allow several cadets an opportunity to experience various leadership positions. Change of Command normally occurs at the end of the trimester.

The Squadron Commander is generally selected from among the cadets who are in their third year of AFJROTC. The selectee then recommends to the Aerospace Science Instructor his/her choice for other leadership positions.

Positions in the Cadet Corps are similar to those in the business community. Each position has a job description and each area has both and officer and NCO positions. Each class has both a Flight Commander and a Flight Sergeant.

Cadet Corps Activities

In addition to regular curriculum areas there are special activities that students may choose to participate in. Many of these activities develop leadership skills as well as providing students with hands on experience as student leaders and an opportunity to enhance the esprit de corps of the cadet squadron. Cadets also use most of these activities to earn points for lettering and towards various awards.

Field Trips

Each year cadets have the opportunity to take several field trips. In the past, students have been to the Kennedy Space Center in FL, to Washington D.C., the Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH, the Experimental Aircraft Society Museum in Oskosh, WI, Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, NE, Grand Forks Air Force Base, ND, as well as Air National Guard Bases in Duluth and the Twin Cities. Students are also afforded the opportunity to take C-130 orientation flights with both the Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserve.

Color Guard

The Color Guard is a highly visible part of our Cadet Corps. The Color Guard regularly participates at school sporting events, assemblies, awards programs, and graduation. Often our Color Guard participates prior to major league sporting events such as the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings, and for the St Paul Saints. The Color Guard also participates in many parades and other activities throughout the local area.

Awareness Presentation Team

Our Historic Flag demonstration provides cadets an opportunity to earn the Awareness Presentation Team Badge while displaying the flags that have flown over North America to school and civic groups throughout the area. This presentation currently includes twenty-five flags and is a great visual history lesson for any age group.

Service Projects

An important part of growing up is learning to do things for yourself and others. That is the purpose of our service projects. Cadets perform service to the community and school by ushering, escorting, recycling, etc. We annually sponsor the school food drive and in in the past have collected over 17,000 food items for the local food shelf during a single two week period. Our cadet corps also sponsors the Pennies for Patients drive in support of the Leukemia Society. We have finished first in the State of Minnesota more than once and have raised over $10,000. Cadets have also adopted a portion of Woodlane Drive as our Adopt-a-Road program. We are very proud of the efforts of our cadets and the services that they perform!
