WHS invites students and parents to attend College Planning Saturday on Saturday, January 23 from 9:00-11:45 a.m.. This FREE event will bring representatives from the University of Minnesota System, Minnesota State Colleges & Universities, and the Minnesota Private College Council together to present information about their institutions.

Choose from  NINE different breakout sessions:

  • Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)
  • Paying for College (including FAFSA)
  • Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (Two and Four Year Schools)

Navigating the College Search Process

This presentation covers the timeline, strategies, questions to ask and other considerations for students and families as you begin the process of selecting a college.

Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)

You will hear about the PSEO process for WHS students. You will also learn the PSEO application process at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and Century College. Current PSEO students will speak about their experience at college.

Paying for College

This presentation explores college costs, the value of college education, and how families pay for college. You will learn how to estimate the cost of attending the college of your choice. We will also discuss types and sources of financial aid, with a special focus on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Learn about the choices you have at these 17 private nonprofit colleges-what value these colleges have for students and how to find out more about the individual institutions. We’ll discuss college financing resources and how these colleges can be affordable options.

Choosing A Major

This presentation will go into an explanation about what a major is, options to double major and what a minor is. We will also discuss why choosing a major based on your career/profession choice is important.

Prepare Your Student for the Path

Don’t try to prepare the path for your student! Are college acceptances about the parents? Is it about bragging rights to friends about admissions or scholarships or how much the soccer coach wants your daughter / son? Or, is it about finding the “best fit” for your child, the place your student will feel the most comfortable and be able to thrive educationally, socially and make the connections they need to pursue their career?
